Registration Methods

Last edited 2/16/2022
The Registration Method defines how your groups register and what information you can gather during the registration. Selecting the Registration Method is the first step in creating a new Event Type, and each method has slightly different settings for the Event Type. Once your new event type is saved, you can only change the registration method by duplicating the Event Type and changing the registration method, so be careful to choose the most efficient method for your event and your participants. The Registration Method cannot be changed for saved Event Types, so all active and past events will maintain the same format for accounting purposes.

The three Registration Methods are described below. For a side-by-side comparison, scroll down to Comparing Registration Methods.

Just Names (Participants)

When a registration uses Just Names, groups sign up specific individuals. Detailed information is collected for each participant and registrants can sign up for individual classes. Groups can still purchase any number of products.

Just Names is the most commonly used Registration Method and is perfect for most Day Camps, Camporees, and Merit Badge Fairs. It supports both multi-event discounts and camperships.

A Just Names (Participants) event:

  • Collects a participant list and details on each participant.
  • Supports multi-event discounts for individuals.
  • Includes a Names Wizard that walks users through each registration step.
  • Includes a separate Products Wizard.
  • Has participants sign up for classes or options individually.
  • Assigns Early, Base, or Late Rate depending on when a participant is first registered or added to the cart.
  • Offers councils control over whether groups can add or remove specific participants.
  • Utilizes Event options to allow pricing overrides such as discounts or camperships. These can be self-administered or admin-only.

Just Numbers (Spots)

The Just Numbers Registration Method is group-based, collecting a headcount for each registered group instead of a list of participants. In a numbers-based event, classes and options apply to the whole group. Groups can still purchase any number of products as part of their registration.

A Just Numbers (Spots) Event:

  • Collects a headcount.
  • Includes a Numbers Wizard that walks users through each registration step and includes Products
  • Offers group Classes and Options.
  • Can have groups select their top 3 campsite choices (which are then assigned by admins).
  • Assigns Early, Base, or Late Rate depending on when a spot is first registered or when the group pays for the spot in full.
  • Offers councils control over whether groups can increase their numbers.
  • Utilizes Event Options to allow pricing overrides.
  • Supports automated Free Leader ratios.

Numbers and Names (Summer Camp Style)

Numbers and Names registrations are designed for summer camps and similar events. They allow groups to commit to attending well in advance, first registering an approximate headcount (numbers). At a later date, groups are required to name individuals for each of their spots and can then sign those individuals up for classes. This registration structure allows for group classes/options, individual classes, and group product orders.

A Numbers and Names (Summer Camp Style) event:

  • Collects both a headcount (initially) and a specific participant list (at a later date).
  • Includes a Numbers Wizard that walks users through each initial registration step, including:
    • Reserving spots.
    • Registering for group classes or options.
    • Purchasing products.
    • Choosing their top 3 preferred campsites (admin assigns campsite).
  • Includes a Names Wizard that walks users through each final registration step, including:
    • Registering an individual for each spot (can select from the current roster or add a new name which will be added to the roster).
    • Registering individuals for classes or options.
  • Includes a Products Wizard that can be used to make purchases after the Numbers Wizard has been completed.
  • Assigns Early, Base, or Late Rate depending on when a spot is first registered or when the group pays for the spot in full.
  • Allows pricing overrides on each individual or with event options (Camperships).
  • Supports automated Free Leader ratios.
