Site Navigation vs. Page Navigation

There are two primary styles of menus in a Tentaroo website: Site Navigation and Page Navigation. These two menu styles do not necessarily need to match.

  • Site Navigation - the menus and dropdowns that appear along the top of the site.
  • Page Navigation - the menus that appear on the right sidebar of individual pages.

Setting up a Site Navigation Menu

From the "Please select a menu:" dropdown, choose Site Navigation - this is the default selection when you go to the Menu editor.

Click the green plus icon to add a new item.

  • To build a new parent menu, uncheck "Display this item under another menu or section?" This new item is the parent menu title that appears on the Site Navigation bar*. Save.
  • To add a child menu to a parent menu dropdown, leave "Display this item under another menu or section?" checked and choose the parent menu.
    • Enter a name for your child menu item. This will automatically populate the title field. Then select the destination:
      • Calendar - options given
      • District - options given
      • External URL - enter full URL
      • No Link
      • Page - choose from the list
      • Site Event - choose from the list
      • Sitemap - legacy item, do not use
      • Specific Resource - choose a category and then a resource
    • Choose the destination from the list at the bottom, i.e. page, site event, district page, or resource.

For external URLs and resources, choose "Open in: New Window." This keeps your site pages up on the original tab and shows the new information in a separate tab.

*The number of Site Navigation parent menu items you can have is limited only by the horizontal space on the desktop version of the website. If your menus exceed the width, they will wrap and make it difficult to use the dropdown menus. Shorten menu titles or combine menu items to keep the Site Navigation bar displaying correctly.

Setting up a Page Navigation Menu

From the "Please select a menu:" dropdown, choose Page Navigation.

Click the green plus icon to add a new item.

  • To build a new parent menu, uncheck "Display this item under another menu or section?" This new item is the title for your page menu and is not linked. Rather, you will add all the sub pages you want this menu to display on. Save.
  • To add a child menu to an existing page menu, leave "Display this item under another menu or section?" checked and choose the parent menu.
    • Enter a name for your child menu item. This will automatically populate the title field. Then select the destination:
      • Calendar - options given
      • District - options given
      • External URL - enter full URL
      • No Link
      • Page - choose from the list
      • Site Event - choose from the list
      • Sitemap - legacy item, do not use
      • Specific Resource - choose a category and then a resource
    • Check the "Show Menu on Page?" box to display this menu on the page. Only one menu can be shown on a page, but you can link to a page from multiple page navigation menus.
    • Choose the destination from the list at the bottom, i.e. page, site event, district page, or resource.

For external URLs and resources, choose "Open in: New Window." This keeps your site up on the original tab and shows the new information in a separate tab.
